I help established founders make better decisions, move faster, and avoid expensive mistakes.
Your business already works. The challenge is knowing what to fix next, what to ignore, and what to stop doing altogether.
Too many offers. Too many moving parts. Too many decisions you keep putting off because the business keeps running and nothing feels urgent enough to stop and fix.
Some founders have been sitting with the same decision for six months. They know what the move is. The business is still running, so the decision keeps sliding.
You message me on Signal when you're at a decision point. I already know your business deeply, and every week we continue, I know it even deeper. No calendar booking required, no waiting.
From event crew to a $500 million exit.
When I met Dan Corkill he was event crew on $65K a year, handing out contracts at the back of the room. He built Follow Up Boss, and sold it to Zillow in a deal worth up to $500 million.
"I went from working like a maniac to running an effective team, scaling our business and working a lot less with help from James."
I'm James Schramko.
There is no reason you need to hustle and grind. No staged photos, no rented jets, no exotic-car posts. Guest appearances and speaking slots stopped years ago, by design.
Never ran a business into the ground and clawed back. Just kept running it, profitably.
You don't need a hundred million dollars to live well. Advice only counts from people whose life I would genuinely swap for mine.
Surfing most days. Running a quiet business that pays for a high quality life. Working since 1991, free of the job since 2008.
The principles that work are not complicated. Most people just need someone to help them see what to stop.
I have been mentoring business owners since 2008. Over 3,500 businesses across 18 years. My average client stays 5 to 7 years. My longest-running client has been with me since 2010.
Recurring income unbroken since July 2008.
The patterns repeat.
You're not dealing with a unique problem. You're dealing with a familiar one you can't see yet.
The most common version: a founder who holds every open question in the business. Pricing, team, positioning. Nothing gets handed off, so everything stays with them. Often for years. They are executing, which makes the constraint invisible until someone names it from outside.
The other common version: the business has outgrown the way you run it. You are operating a bigger company on the habits that built the smaller one.
That's why I can make a call in minutes that would take you months to reach alone. That is what you are buying.
Most founders think they need more information. Usually they need a better diagnosis.
The Operating Model
Built to survive platform shifts, complexity, and growth.
Recurring revenue
Unbroken since July 2008. Forward income every month, through every platform shift and content era.
Platform independence
Core email list and core recurring subscription, intact through three full content era shifts. The business runs without platform dependency by design, the principle behind owning the racecourse you run on.
Operational leverage
Growth works better when unnecessary operational load stays low.
Mentor
Ongoing input for founders who already have a working business.
Founders who stay in Mentor make better decisions faster. They avoid expensive detours. They move with less friction. The business becomes easier to run not because it gets smaller, but because the calls are cleaner and the model stays tight.
What that looks like in practice: Daily direct chat access for the calls that matter. Weekly founder group calls. Ongoing input from someone who has seen the pattern before.
I tell clients to shut down six-figure product lines when they are creating drag. I tell clients to raise prices and remove clients who do not fit. I tell clients to collapse three offers into one. One client was sure he was burned out. He was underpriced. He tripled his rates, dropped two offers, and the exhaustion disappeared. The work is specific. The advice is direct. The goal is always fewer moving parts, cleaner positioning, and stronger decisions.
Direct input when decisions need to be made
Direct access via Signal: text, voice, or attachments, straight from your phone. No portal, no ticketing system, no waiting two weeks for a call. When something needs a call, it gets one.
Weekly founder group calls
Live discussions with experienced founders. Bring real decisions. Get direct input. Hear what is actually working across different businesses.
Pattern recognition applied to your situation
3,500 businesses across 18 years. The pattern repeats. I have seen your problem before. I know what you are avoiding and I name it directly.
The call I get most often is from a founder carrying a pricing question, a team decision, a positioning shift, and a cash flow concern simultaneously. They are moving across all four at once, which means none of them get resolved. The constraint is the load.
Half the time the founder already knows the answer. What they need is someone with pattern evidence to confirm it is safe to act on.
How It Works Over Time
First 60 Days: Diagnose
In week one I run your business through a structural diagnosis. We map how it is built, surface the real constraints, and make the first fixes.
Months 3-6: Optimize
Core optimization phase. Focus on constraints, pricing, positioning, and deferred decisions that are creating drag.
Ongoing: Make the Calls
Continuous adjustment as markets shift. Expensive detours get named and cut early. The business keeps moving without needing constant intervention. The value compounds because I know the business deeply enough to catch what you cannot see from inside it.
You already know the move.
Most founders who join arrive with a decision that has been sitting there for months. Kill the offer that underperforms. Raise the price. Replace the hire. The business keeps running, so the decision keeps sliding, and everything quietly adapts around it.
My job is to name what the delay is costing, shrink the move until the first step fits inside a week, and hold you to the date you set.
This is for you if:
- You already have a working business with recurring revenue
- You run a service business, agency, SaaS, consulting, or coaching company
- You want clarity over motivation
- You execute fast and respect direct feedback
This is not for you if:
- You are under $100K a year or still proving your offer
- You want a course or curriculum
- You avoid hard decisions
- You prioritize motivation over strategy
If you have been coached before.
Plenty of my clients have been coached before, some by me. Around a third of the current client base worked with me years ago, left, and came back.
What they come back to is the tightest version of this work in 18 years.
Client Results
Real outcomes from real founders that held without reinforcement.
"I used James's scripts to close two deals that will generate roughly $30,000 each over the next 12 months. That's around $60,000, and we've been working together 3 days. He's already helping me make better decisions, see the business more clearly, improve profitability, and focus on the things that actually matter. I worked with James over 10 years ago when I was just getting started. Leaving was one of those classic poor life choice Paul moments. I should have stayed."
"James helped me design an offer founders actually wanted to buy and get my first client within the first month. Five years on, I run a fully remote business with clients and team spanning North America, UK and Australia. At some point I realised I would never be an employee again."
"We scaled our business from six figures per year to six figures per month. Achieved the position of number one Australian Small Business G Suite Partner. Acquired 6 competing companies. Retained 100% ownership with no equity investors. I lowered weekly work hours from 60+ to under 20."
"We increased our revenue by 30% while increasing profit margin by 25%. I was also working the fewest hours per week in my business that I have in years."
"Since being a mentoring partner, we have doubled revenue, tripled profit, and brought on more than 10 team members within a year, as the business has been growing by 5-10% month after month."
"We've pretty much doubled every year since starting, from £440k to £800k this year. James helps me keep the core business growing, turn short term opportunities into fast campaigns, and land the bigger corporate deals. We landed a £20,000 contract just off the back of one lead reaching out to us."
"I added £900,000 profit per year to my business within 21 months and gained time back for my family. My business has tripled every year for the last 3 years."
"My business ran for a full week in Hong Kong while I was at Disneyland with my family. Three hours of work the entire trip. Revenue kept moving without me touching anything."
"I've been coached by James since 2010. He's been instrumental in growing my business past 7 figures while valuing lifestyle and family."
"James is a genius, and he stops me doing dumb shit."
Investment
No lock-in contract. Try it for 30 days. If it's not for you, cancel anytime, at least 24 hours before your next billing date. Clients stay because the improvements compound. Better decisions affect pricing, positioning, offers, hiring, systems, and growth. One avoided mistake can pay for years of membership. No discovery calls. No applications. If this page speaks to you, join. If it doesn't, don't. If you are unsure, start with the Playbooks.
JOIN MENTORNo contract. On purpose.
Lock-in contracts and exit penalties do the retention work the coaching should be doing. I don't use them, and you can cancel anytime, at least 24 hours before your next billing date.
The work builds your judgment, so you make more of the calls yourself over time. Clients stay 5 to 7 years because they choose to, month after month.
Availability
The client roster stays deliberately small for sharper attention.
You will never be lost in a group of hundreds.

BROWSE THE PLAYBOOKSCommon Questions
I've worked with over 3,500 businesses across 18 years. That produces pattern recognition most mentors don't have. Most mentoring is measured by what happens in the session. I measure what happens after. The metric I track is whether clients implement between sessions without being asked. Across my current client base, most arrive to sessions having already acted on the previous one. Decisions made. Changes implemented. Problems solved without checking in first. That does not happen because the sessions are good. It happens because the structure is built around one business, held consistently over years, by someone who knows what you are avoiding and names it directly. Den Lennie put it this way: "James is a genius, and he stops me doing dumb shit." Most founders don't need more information. They need fewer expensive mistakes.
What the work often looks like
Not a fixed framework. A pattern that recurs across most of the businesses I work with.
- Diagnose. Map structure, identify leaks, surface constraints.
- Remove. Cut unnecessary offers and reduce drag.
- Refine. Improve pricing, positioning, delivery.
- Build. Recurring revenue and architecture that holds without sprawl.
- Hold. Keep the model tight as the business changes.
